MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Inspectors from the United States have examined a Russian missile troop division in Central Russia in line with the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, Missile Troops consultant Col.-Gen. Viktor Yesin said Tuesday.
“An inspection was held on July 15-16 at the Nizny Tagil Missile Division,” Col.-Gen. Yesin told journalists.
He said that 10 of a possible 18 inspections have already been held in 2015, of them six have involved the inspections of missile divisions. START-3 allows for 18 inspections per year.
Russia and the United States signed the New START Treaty in 2010 aimed at reducing bilaterally the numbers of deployed strategic nuclear weapons. It replaced the Treaty of Moscow, which was due to expire in 2012.
Earlier this year, the US Congress voted to suspend funds for the implementation of the nuclear arms deal as part of a larger vote to approve the 2016 defense spending bill.
