NATO will not set up permanent bases in Poland, according to the US Deputy Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia John A. Heffern.

“At the NATO summit in Warsaw in July next year, the adoption of resolutions to place permanent NATO bases in Poland will not take place” said Heffern, Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita reported.

The Polish government has repeatedly expressed the need to deploy NATO military bases in Polish territory on a permanent basis.

Although Poland’s desire for permanent bases now seems unattainable, the American diplomat assured that Washington will maintain a ‘permanent rotating presence’ of US troops in Polish territory.

“We will be [in Poland] for as long as is necessary,” Heffern added.

Recently, NATO has shifted its military strategy following the Ukrainian crisis and is now restarting its war machine in Europe in order to deal with Russia's imaginary threat.

The US is bolstering its defenses all along NATO's eastern frontier: the Obama administration deployed tanks and other heavy weaponry in six Eastern European countries, from Estonia in the north to Bulgaria in the south. Furthermore, NATO is also planning to relocate combat brigades from the US and Western Europe to Eastern European countries.
