WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On July 17, 2015, James Holmes was found guilty of killing 12 people in Aurora, Colorado at a screening of the Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises.”
At the time, Holmes was charged with 24 counts of first-degree murder, 140 counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of explosives.
Holmes defended himself by arguing he was insane and suffered from severe delusions and schizophrenia at the time of the shooting.
However, psychiatrists brought in by the prosecution argued against Holmes’ claims, revealing that he was sane when he conducted the killing.
Colorado investigators found a plot to the killing and precautions Holmes took in his diary.
