NEW YORK (Sputnik) – “Approximately 119 Delta mainline and Delta connection flights have been cancelled today at LGA [LaGuardia] and delays are averaging three hours,” Delta stated.
No injuries have been reported and security checkpoints are still operating, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ).
“LaGuardia staff are currently in the process of starting generators to assist with the power issue,” PANYNJ said in the statement.
The power outage began at approximately at 4:30 and repairs are still underway as of 10:00, the Port Authority added.
LaGuardia has been criticized for its outdated equipment, with US Vice President Joe Biden comparing it to a “third world country” during a visit to New York in 2014.
The airport serviced nearly 30 million passengers in 2014, according to the PANYNJ.
