ST.PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — The US Justice Department charged 14 people, including FIFA officials, with bribery, money laundering and racketeering in May. Other high-ranking FIFA representatives, including recently resigned president Joseph Blatter and Valcke are under suspicion by the Swiss General Prosecutor Office for suspected corruption.
“I’ve always said that as the head of the administration I can be proud of FIFA’s performance. I do not consider FIFA as the participant of all these economic scandals. I have not seen any commercial frauds. If to speak about me, I was not involved in these processes, I just did my work. Secretary general implements the decisions of the FIFA Congress and executive committees,” Valcke told journalists.
Blatter resigned amid the scandal and will leave his office after a new president is elected, despite the absence of evidence of his involvement in corruption within all five of his terms.
Valcke confirmed that he would also step down from his office after a new FIFA president is elected in February.
