PRAGUE (Sputnik) – "Czech police have detained a truck with around 80 refugees from third world countries near the German border," Ceska Televize broadcaster reported.
According to Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec, undocumented migrants in the Czech Republic are now counted in the thousands. Most cross over from Hungary, attempting to move to Austria, Germany or Sweden, where social benefits are believed to be the most generous in Europe.
The driver of the truck is said to be a Hungarian national and police are currently investigating the case, according to media reports.
July 27, Chovanec said Prague was ready to help Budapest counter undocumented migrants on Hungary’s southern border, an area reportedly crossed by over 80,000 refugees in 2015.
The European migrant crisis has become an epidemic, as thousands flee conflict-torn countries in North Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South Asia.
According to the UN data, some 137,000 refugees crossed the Mediterranean Sea for Europe in the first six months of 2015, with almost 2,000 dying in the attempt.
