MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Khaled Bahah arrived in Yemen’s second largest city on board a Saudi plane two weeks after the government declared it liberated from the Shiite militants, according to Al Arabiya.
A Saudi-led coalition has been engaged in an aerial bombardment campaign against the Houthi rebels since March, aiming to restore Yemeni President-in-exile Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi’s authority in the country.
The Houthi offensive toward Aden earlier this year has forced Bahah to flee, along with Hadi, to Saudi Arabia.
The official’s return comes a day after the largest humanitarian aid shipment since the Yemeni conflict began in 2014 arrived in the country.
The conflict in Yemen has claimed the lives of at least 1,900 civilians and more than 4,000 have suffered injuries, according to the UN human rights agency.
Other local media cited Yemeni officials as saying Bahah is on a one-day visit to assess the humanitarian situation on the ground.
