MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon signed an administrative detention decree late on Tuesday to hold Mordechai Maayar for up to six months, subject to indefinite renewals, according to the Jerusalem Post.
The ministry spokesperson was quoted by the outlet as saying Maayar is suspected of “violent activities and terrorist attacks that occurred recently.”
Yaalon authorized the use of administrative detention, a provision normally reserved to keep suspected Palestinian militants in detention, against Israeli terrorists over the weekend.
Also on Tuesday, the Israeli security agency announced the arrest of far-right figure Avitar Salonim.
The arrest follows Monday’s arrest of the grandson of an Israeli-American far-right activist Rabbi Meir Kahane, Meir Ettinger, who was on Shin Bet’s list of most-wanted Jewish terror suspects.
Ultra-Orthodox Jewish settlers are known to carry out the so-called price tag policy, or vandalism and attacks aimed at Palestinians, Christians, Israeli security forces, or anyone who opposes their settlement of the West Bank.
