MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Two Islamic State (ISIL) fighters, originally from Austria and Germany, published a video online calling for single-handed attacks to be carried out in European countries, the US-based monitoring organization SITE Intelligence Group reported on Wednesday.
In the video, shot in the central Syrian city of Tadmur, the militants urge Austrian and German Muslims to join ISIL and come to the territories under the group’s control.
The ISIL group has seized vast territories in Syria and Iraq in recent years. The militants are notorious for their many human rights atrocities, including executions of religious minorities, Syrian and Iraqi government servicemen and foreign hostages, including journalists and aid workers.
ISIL has reportedly recruited thousands of Westerners. US intelligence estimates the number of foreign fighters that have joined Islamic State to be between 20,000 and 30,000.
