Americans rank first in the list of arms exporters with the headquarters of the largest weapons companies located in the US.

The United States makes outrageous amounts of money on the arms trade, profiting from those countries devastated by war or military conflict, ORF reported.

The arms trade is a very profitable business, but has little to do with morality. States often use weapons to supply their armies, oppress civilians or get involved in shady deals reselling them.

The US ranks first among arms exporters worldwide. The Russian Federation comes second, followed by China — where weapons exports have risen by 143% over the past 5 years, followed by Germany and France.

India, China, Pakistan, North Korea, South Korea and Singapore are the main importers of arms. Together, these five countries accounted for 30% of the total weapons turnover worldwide.

At the same time, Europe generally prefers to sell weapons, rather than buy them. In recent years, European arms imports decreased by 36%. The reason for this may be that people feel less threatened during peacetime, ORF reported. In addition, public funds available for purchases have decreased due to the financial crisis.
