Senator Ted Cruz claims that a small gathering of 600 people to hear him speak exceeded expectations.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Senator Ted Cruz has tried to heat up his fading presidential campaign by claiming that a small gathering of 600 people to hear him speak exceeded expectations.

“Today in Little Rock, the crowd exceeded expectations, drawing nearly 600 attendees,” the Cruz for President Campaign stated in a press release issued on Wednesday.

Cruz has been flat-lining in opinion polls among Republican voters never pulling more than six percent of voter support and sometimes as little as three percent.

His numbers fell significantly after his appearance in the first debate of top ten presidential candidates on August 6.

Fading Candidate Ted Cruz Invests Money, Adds Staff in Key US States
Cruz visited Little Rock, the capital of Arkansas, during a swing through the state and through neighboring Oklahoma.

The support Cruz counted on among poor Republican voters and social conservatives has gone instead to front-running candidate and billionaire businessman Donald Trump.

Cruz’s poll numbers have also fallen every time he claimed hawkish, hardline positions on foreign policy to confront Iran, China and Russia.

Most other hardline candidates such as former Texas Governor Rick Parry, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and Senators Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham are all also trailing badly in single digit figures among Republican voters.

Democratic challenger, Senator Bernie Sanders, a self-described socialist, drew record crowds of over 27,000 people — more than 20 times Cruz’s number — in two rallies in Oregon and California over the weekend.
