MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Tesla pipeline, which is an extension of Russian energy giant Gazprom's planned Turkish Stream pipeline, would pass through Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, and Hungary to eventually reach the Baumgarten gas hub in Vienna.
The foreign ministers of the Balkan states and Greece are expected to meet in September to make a final decision on extending the pipeline, according to the source.
The Tesla pipeline project, with an annual capacity of 27 billion cubic meters, is expected to be finalized by 2019, if approved by all those involved.
Greece might also extend the pipeline to Italy, the newspaper said.
The Turkish Stream will have an annual capacity of 63 billion cubic meters and will run from Russia to Turkey beneath the Black Sea. The pipeline will continue to a hub on the Turkish-Greek border, from where it could be extended to Southern Europe.
Turkish Stream was launched as a replacement to the South Stream pipeline that Moscow canceled in December 2014, citing the "non-constructive" stance of the European Union on the implementation of the project.
