President Barack Obama's agenda for the upcoming UN General Assembly (UNGA) meeting in September is not yet ready, a senior administration official told Sputnik on Wednesday when asked whether the president will meet there with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Putin is planning to attend the UN Security Council session. Lavrov also said that a meeting between Putin and Obama would be possible if the White House initiated it.

From Russia With Sub? US in Fear of Russia’s Activity in the Atlantic

Relations between Russia and the United States deteriorated in the spring of 2014, following Crimea's secession from Ukraine and its reunification with Russia. The internal conflict in eastern Ukraine, which began in April 2014, further contributed to the worsening of US-Russia ties.

Washington has accused Moscow of meddling in Ukraine's internal affairs and imposed several rounds of economic sanctions.

Russia has consistently refuted the allegations, stating it stands for a peaceful settlement of the internal conflict in Ukraine. Moreover, Russia has repeatedly stated it was ready to resume dialogue with the West, but on the basis of equality and mutual respect.
