MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Kiev authorities continue attempts to solve the crisis in Ukraine's southeast through military means, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said Friday.
"We see that Ukrainian authorities time and again attempt to solve the problem in Donbass by force," Patrushev said.
According to the top security official, Kiev-led forces fail to comply with February's Minsk peace deal, and continue using heavy weaponry.
In 2014, Kiev launched a military offensive in the country's east against local militias who refused to recognize a coup-imposed government in the country.
Despite a ceasefire agreement reached in February 2015, the warring sides continue to accuse each other of violating the agreed upon truce.
According to UN estimates, more than 6,800 people have been killed in the eastern Ukrainian conflict since April 2014.
