WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Boehner, who has served as Ohio’s Representative for 12 terms, has been leading the US House of Representatives since the party took control after the November 2014 midterm elections. Boehner was originally elected as House Speaker in 2011, and has served in this role since then.
“It is not as important for me to get a new speaker, as it is to get the speaker to respond to those he is elected to serve — that is, members of Congress,” Meadows told The Daily Signal.
Boehner used his “legislative calendar to create crises for the American people,” the lawmaker said. Meadows added if the vote succeeded, he would “certainly entertain” becoming House Speaker himself.
He continued, “If they are not responsive, the only thing we can change at this particular point is the speaker of the House, and then that certainly is on the table.”
Meadows asserts more than 29 Republicans will vote to remove Boehner from his position.
