Korean Crisis: On a Tightrope Between War and Peace

Subscribe
The Korean Peninsula has passed through another major security crisis with the exchange of artillery fire and a noisy propaganda war before both sides silenced their guns, switched off their loudspeakers, and sat down at the negotiating table.

In an article entitled “Deal Between North and South Korea Defies Their Mutual Disdain”, written by Choe Sang-Hun and carried by The New York Times, the author writes that:

“The agreement that ended a tense military standoff on the Korean Peninsula on Tuesday taught a lesson about North-South dynamics: Though they heap verbal abuse on each other’s leaders, the two sides can still do a deal when it suits their interests.”

Sergei Oznobischev, Director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Assessment (studio guest), Georgy Toloraya, ex-Russian diplomat who worked in Northern and Southern Koreas, Dr. Leonid Petrov, an expert on Korea at the Australian National University and Yoichi Tamaki, Japanese political analyst joined us to discuss the issue.
