MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Tougher controls were introduced by Austrian authorities after 71 refugees were found dead in an abandoned truck on Thursday.
About 200 asylum seekers and five suspected people traffickers were found during the checks, introduced on the M1 motorway and a nearby main road at the Austrian border, media reported, citing officials.
Europe has been beset by a major migrant crisis as thousands of people flee conflict-torn countries in North Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South Asia. Hungary is the gateway to wealthier European Union countries for thousands of migrants.
