WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Yaroshenko is currently serving a 20-year jail term in the United States. Yaroshenko was detained in Liberia in 2010 in a joint undercover operation between Liberian and US intelligence agencies. He was then transferred to the United States, where he was charged with plotting to smuggle cocaine into the country.
“Prison doctor debarred [Yaroshenko] from urologic surgery recommended by the doctors from the private clinic,” Alexei Tarasov told RIA Novosti.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the US authorities would be in violation of international obligations and Yaroshenko’s rights, if the surgery was denied.
In early 2014, Yaroshenko reported severe heart pains. He was granted a medical examination only after numerous requests by his lawyer and Russian diplomats.
