MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Germany suspended train service from Austria for 24 hours on Sunday amid a major migrant influx, local media reported, citing an Austrian railways spokesperson.
The situation with the trains going in the other direction is unclear, the Bild newspaper reported.
The statement came as local media reported that Berlin is set to reintroduce controls at the border with Austria.
Germany has said it expects 800,000 asylum seekers to reach the country this year, while 13,000 migrants from war-torn regions of the Middle East and North Africa arrived in the German city of Munich on Saturday alone.
Interior ministers from the EU’s 28 states will meet in Brussels on Monday. They will discuss a plan set out last week by Jean-Claude Juncker, the head of the European Commission, to redistribute 160,000 asylum seekers across the bloc.
