MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Command post exercises involving warships and submarines commenced in northwestern Russia on Monday, a spokesman for the country's Northern Fleet said.
"This is the first large-scale command post exercise being held by the joint strategic command of the Northern Fleet, with the maximum involvement of troops and forces, stationed in the Kola Polar region," Capt. 1st Rank Vadim Serga said.
The exercise involves nuclear- and diesel-powered submarines, coastal missile and artillery units, naval aviation forces of the Northern Fleet, and logistic assistance, according to the spokesman.
Fourteen warships, four submarines and 10 support vessels will participate in the drill while naval aviation of the Northern Fleet carries out 20 missions using four different types of aircraft.
The drills will last until the end of the week.
