"Lockheed Martin has received a Foreign Military Sales contract from the US Air Force to provide the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) to the Polish Air Force for its F-16 fleet," the release read.
Poland will become the third nation to receive the missiles after Australia and Finland, according to Lockheed Martin.
The US defense company will provide the Polish Air Force not only with missiles, but with hardware, software, documentation and program, the release said.
"JASSM provides Poland with operational flexibility, reliability and mission effectiveness to meet their national defense requirements," Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control Vice President of Business Development Joe Garland was quoted as saying in the release.
Up to date, Lockheed Martin has produced more than 1,700 JASSM cruise missiles for F-16 warplanes that are one of the oldest and regularly used combat aircraft in the US Air Force.
JASSM is a 2,000-pound air-to-ground precision standoff missile designed to destroy high-value, well-defended targets, it can be integrated on multiple types of military aircraft, according to Lockheed Martin.
