WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The amendment, introduced by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, aimed to stop President Obama from waiving congressional sanctions until Iran formally recognized Israel’s right to exist, and until the four US citizens being held in Iranian custody were released.
McConnell introduced the amendment on Tuesday after the second failed vote to reject the nuclear agreement.
The Senate will now move on to vote on the resolution of disapproval, opposing the Iran deal, for the third time since last week.
September 17 marks the end of the 60-day review allowed to Congress to examine the text of the nuclear agreement with Tehran.
