MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Washington is trying to fragment Europe, fearing its strength as a united political power and a scenario where it sides with Russia and other BRICS countries rather than the United States, the leader of the European Communitarianist Party told Sputnik Monday.
"Now for the US the main goal is to disintegrate Europe. Because a real united Europe would be a problem for them. Because if Europe would become a political unity, Europeans would understand that their interests are closer [aligned] to Russia or other BRICS countries than to the US," Orazio Gnerre said.
One of the party's tenets, outlined on its website, calls for the disbandment of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the nationalization of US companies and assets based in Europe to "end American domination."
Moreover, the refugee crisis — triggered by US military operations around the world — is sparking cultural and religious clashes in Europe, leaving it weaker and relegating it to a single market rather than a common civilization, Gnerre added.
"But we should also understand that we cannot fight against immigrants in fact. Because they are victims as we are of the same problem. There is global chaos created by those who want to dominate the world," Gnerre warned.
Representatives from the European Communitarianist Party Party are among the participants of the international conference, entitled "The dialogue of nations. The right of peoples to self-determination and building of the multipolar world," being held in Moscow on Sunday and Monday.
The European Union faces a new kind of economic colonization from the United States in the form of its ongoing US-EU Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations, the leader of the National-European Communitarian Party (NCP) told Sputnik.
The TTIP, set to establish the world’s largest free trade zone accounting for 60 percent of the global population, has been criticized for the lack of transparency in its negotiation and the powers that would be relinquished to multinational corporations were it to come into force.
"TTIP will be a pact not between the United States and Europe, but between multinationals of the US and local governments. It means that now we are facing a new colonization by America, which is economic colonization," Orazio Gnerre asserted.
Gnerre, lamenting Europe’s inability to pursue its own economic and political interests because of US influence, linked the proposed TTIP deal to another another crisis Europe is facing.
"TTIP [negotiations] and the immigrant crisis are tied together. They bring the kind of the dissolution of Europe that the United States is seeking," Gnerre said.
Although the TTIP’s stated goal is to ease the flow of goods and services across the Atlantic, the WikiLeaks whistleblowing website claims the pact aims to create a global economic bloc outside the World Trade Organization framework.
Anti-TTIP activists have repeatedly pointed out that the agreement could benefit corporations and corporate rights-holders at the expense of sovereign nations and consumers.
