VIENNA (Sputnik) — Both politicians emphasized during their Vienna talks the necessity of the currently functioning system of neighbor negotiations and of further joint actions, including at the level of daily work of the government, the Austrian Press Agency APA reported.
According to the Austrian chancellor, the Dublin Regulation will remain in effect until there is a new system of refugee admission.
The Dublin Regulation, signed by all EU members, stipulates that the first EU member country entered by a refugee must process their asylum application. The regulation prevents multiple applications in EU member states.
The European Union faces the largest refugee movement since World War II, with hundreds of thousands fleeing violence in war-torn regions in the Middle East and North Africa.
According to the European Commission, over 500,000 undocumented migrants have arrived in the bloc since the beginning of 2015.
