NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Russia was among six world powers that reached a final comprehensive agreement with Iran on its nuclear program on July 14. The deal ensures the peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for the gradual lifting of sanctions against the country.
"We are highly satisfied with our cooperation on the global arena, including the fight against terrorism, on security issues… our joint work on peaceful atom and other large projects that have been widely discussed recently," Putin said during talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly.
"I have no doubt that these arrangements will pave the way for the development of mutual cooperation in science and technology and other areas," the Iranian president stated, adding that Moscow and Tehran had fruitful consultations on regional issues as well.
Rouhani also noted the role of Iran and Russia for the security of the Middle East was of paramount importance.
