"The contract price will depend on the calorific value, within $248-252 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters. Therefore, the discount is about $20," Novak told journalists.
Novak also explained that Russia and Ukraine do not need an approval by the Normandy Quartet to finalize the so-called winter gas package.
"[We] don't need any additional decisions [on the winter package], including by the Normandy Four… All the [required] actions are made, all is left is for Ukraine to pay for gas and get it," Novak said.
Russia’s Gazprom energy company chief executive Alexey Miller said he expected Naftogaz to begin the payment process on October 1.
On Wednesday, Novak denied the Russian side had received any payment from Ukraine for winter gas.
In late September, Russia, Ukraine, and the European Commission initialed a legally binding protocol on winter package for gas deliveries from October 1, 2015, to March 31, 2016.
The trilateral protocol sets out the conditions for the purchase by Kiev of 2 billion cubic meters of gas for $500 million from Moscow. The entire winter package agreement also includes an addendum to the contract between Russia’s Gazprom and Ukraine’s Naftogaz.
