Shortly before crucial election at home Turkish President Erdogan made a trip to Europe which was overshadowed by his emotional words over Russia.

Topping the agenda of Erdogan’s visit to Europe was the refugee crisis, as tens of thousands of European-destined individuals first transited into the bloc from Turkey. The EU proposed to co-fund refugee and asylum-processing camps in Turkey, from which they would then pluck half a million lucky people, but so long as Ankara did its part in securing the Syrian border and stopping illegal immigration to Europe.

Erdogan was also in the news this week because of his terse statement concerning the Russian military’s accidental violation of his country’s airspace. He warned: “if Russia loses a friend like Turkey with whom it has a lot of cooperation it is going to lose a lot of things. It needs to know this”.

Dmitry Polikanov, Vice-President of the PIR-Center, an independent think-tank (studio guest), Hasan Selim Ozertem, researcher at Ankara based think tank International Strategic Research Organization and Oytun Orhan, researcher at Ankara based Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies join us to share their views.
