WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Unites States has created a new position at the Department of Justice to help US attorneys more effectively combat domestic terrorism, Assistant US Attorney General John Carlin announced on Wednesday.
"Just this week, we appointed a new Domestic Terrorism Counsel to serve as our main point of contact for US Attorneys working on domestic terrorism matters," Carlin said.
The Domestic Terrorism Counsel, Carlin explained, will play a key role in identifying trends to help shape anti-terrorism strategy.
The Counsel will also analyze "legal gaps or enhancements" to better address domestic terrorism threats.
The new Counsel will operate out of the National Security Division at the Justice Department, whose counterterrorism section maintains ties with the US Attorney’s community around the United States.
