MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Israeli Security Cabinet will punish those involved in terrorist activities by revoking their citizenship or residence status, Interior Minister Silvan Shalom said Wednesday.
"A country that seeks life cannot and may not allow these terrorists to continue to be called residents and citizens and continue enjoying the benefits of that status," Shalom said addressing a parliament meeting, as quoted by The Jerusalem Post newspaper.
Two citizens have received notice of being stripped of Israeli citizenship, according to the news outlet.
Shalom announced his plan to apply citizenship revocation measures to perpetrators of terrorist acts against Israelis on Friday.
A wave of violence including several deadly attacks struck Israel in the past few weeks after clashes between Palestinians and Israelis at East Jerusalem’s Temple Mount holy site in September.
