ATHENS (Sputnik) — The conversation took place on the eve of a European Council meeting in Brussels.
Thousands of migrants are coming through Turkey to Greece, from where refugees head to other European countries, primarily Germany.
Greece is struggling with a massive inflow of refugees from conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa, with arrivals by sea exceeding 441,000, according to the UN refugee agency.
Germany has accepted over 100,000 asylum seekers since the beginning of September.
Berlin expects an influx of about 1.5 million refugees fleeing poverty and violence in the Middle East and North Africa in 2015, well over a previously announced official forecast of 800,000, according to Bild.
