"The program of an upcoming visit of a high-ranking Iranian military delegation to Moscow in late October was discussed, during which a plan on bilateral cooperation for 2016 is set to be agreed," the ministry's press service said in a statement following today's meeting between Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov and his Iranian counterpart Nasrollah Kalantari.
During the meeting, the deputy defense ministers discussed implementing an agreement between the two states for a legal framework for military cooperation. The agreement was originally signed during a visit by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to Tehran on January 20.
Russia and Iran cooperate in anti-terrorist efforts. Along with Syria and Iraq, the two countries have established the Baghdad Information Center in the Iraqi capital for coordinating intelligence and security cooperation against terrorists of the Islamic State.
