MOSCOW (Sputnik) — German automaker Volkswagen has suspended another executive amid the recent emissions scandal, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing a source close to the company.
Frank Tuch, Volkswagen’s head of quality control, was suspended last week amid last month’s accusations that the automaker installed software in the company’s diesel engines to fool official emissions tests.
Tuch is the fifth top executive to be suspended amid the scandal. Matthias Muller was appointed Volkswagen's chief executive officer September 25 following Martin Winterkorn's resignation from the post.
The company has also been using the scandal to carry out job cuts, the newspaper said, citing Volkswagen trade union's statement.
According to previous estimates, the carmaker could face up to $18 billion in fines.
