SANAA (Sputnik) – An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) belonging to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) forces was shot down near the Yemeni capital of Sanaa, a source on the ground confirmed to Sputnik on Tuesday.
"The Arab coalition drone was shot down in Bathaa, located in the district of Saqet valley, which belongs to the Obeid valley in Marib province…the plane belongs to the UAE," the source said.
The unnamed source suggested that al-Qaeda was behind the downing, saying the terrorist group "began directly controlling the aircraft."
Previous reports claimed a US reconnaissance drone crashed in the Marib province district of Wadi Abida.
A Saudi-led coalition of Gulf states has been conducting an armed campaign against Houthis in the country since March this year.
