KIEV (Sputnik) — Ukraine's sanctions against Russian air carriers will enter into force despite a round of talks between the sides in Brussels, Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Andriy Pivovarsky said Friday.
"Today, at the European Commission headquarters in Brussels, technical consultations were held between the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine and Russia's Air Transport Agency. These were technical consultations and I think they will continue, but regardless of today's talks, sanctions against Russian air carriers will enter into force on October 25," Pivovarsky said.
In response, the Russian aviation authorities sent Ukrainian airlines a notification that flights into Russia would be banned starting from the same date.
Ukraine-Russia relations deteriorated following Crimea's reunification with Russia in March 2014 and the escalation of the Ukrainian crisis later that year. Kiev accuses Moscow of interfering in its internal affairs. Russia has continually denied the allegations.
