MONTEVIDEO (Sputnik) — Governor of eastern Argentinian Buenos Aires province and progovernment candidate for the country’s presidency Daniel Scioli heads the poll after the voting stations closed, according to an exit poll data revealed by local media.
On Sunday, Argentinians elected president, vice-president, as well as half of the country’s lower house of the parliament, one-third of its upper house and 43 lawmakers to Palasur (the legislative body of Mercosur).
Representatives of an opposition candidate Mauricio Macri said that a run-off election should be held.
A presidential candidate must gain support of at least 45 percent of voters to win the elections. If the candidate fails to win this result a runoff election will be held.
According to the Argentinian authorities, voting turnout was about 70 percent.
