“I do believe that we have to strengthen the control on the border between Greece and Turkey. The European Union must give all possible assistance to Greece, that such control will be possible, will become actually effective. For this reason, of course, police forces within the Frontex or some other kind of cooperation must be sent to Greece in order to help Greece police and other people who deal with refugees and migrants,” Cerar told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of the European Commission on the Western Balkans route of migrants.
The European Union is currently managing a massive refugee crisis, as hundreds of thousands of people flee conflict-torn regions seeking asylum within the bloc. According to EU border agency Frontex, over 710,000 refugees have arrived in the bloc since the beginning of 2015.
