MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Until now, the minister has avoided mentioning the word "fence" in his comments on border security controls with Slovenia.
Instead, she spoke of a need for "construction measures" to assist in managing the stream of immigrants. Both countries are members of EU’s borderless Schengen Area.
"Of course, there will also be a fence," Mikl-Leitner told ORF adding this move did not mean that the border would be sealed.
She explained that some asylum seekers gathering at the Austrian border were getting "impatient" and angry with access delays.
Almost 2,500 migrants entered Austria last week, the Interior Ministry estimates. Austria has been waving migrants through to Germany, one of the key destinations for tens of thousands of asylum seekers.
