Earlier in the fall, such news organization as Inside Climate News and the Los Angeles Times newspaper published articles showing that Exxon Mobil could knew about the global warming threats, but the officials of the corporation took actions to conceal this information consciously downplaying the role of the climate change.
The New York Times reported Friday that the leaders of more than 40 organizations called on US Department of Justice to investigate the activities of the oil corporation, after the recent revelations showed that company’s activities misled the public.
The newspaper added that Exxon Mobil actively funded organizations advocating climate denialism and tried to block US participation in Kyoto Protocol that aimed to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases’ emissions that cause global warming.
The company denied the charges, stating that it had actively participated in the scientific researches about the climate change, revealing their data for decades.
