MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The air quality in the Indian capital is classified as "severe", as the pollution level is currently four times higher than the safe limits, SAFAR said.
Crop burning in Indian states is one of major reasons for the deteriorated air quality in New Delhi.
According to the survey released by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2014, New Delhi is the most polluted city in the world, with an annual average of 153 micrograms per cubic meter, six times higher than the acceptable norm. The Indian authorities claimed to reject the findings of the WHO study.
