MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The protesters blocked central streets and squares in the capital, carrying placards that say "Down with parliament," "Down with corruption," " We overthrew the government, we will change the system," the Romanian Digi24 TV channel said.
Bucharest police do not interfere in the rally as it is held peacefully, according to the broadcaster.
Earlier in the day, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta resigned following mass protests across the country over a nightclub fire that killed 32 people.
The huge fire broke out in the Colectiv night club in Bucharest on Friday night during a rock concert. According to media reports, fireworks, which were part of the band’s show, ignited the decorations of the club, triggering explosions.
About 25,000 gathered in the center of Bucharest on Tuesday, urging the government to take responsibility for the nightclub's tragedy and complaining of corruption and poor safety supervision.
