PARIS (Sputnik) — Paris will send the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier to help the French Air Force tackle the Islamic State (ISIL) militant group by the end of 2015, a member of the French National Defense and Armed Forces Committee told Sputnik.
On Thursday, France announced it would send a naval task force led by the Charles de Gaulle nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to support military operations against the ISIL militants.
"The aircraft carrier will arrive at the deployment site by the end of this year at the most," Eduardo Rihan Cypel said on Thursday.
According to Cypel, French President Francois Hollande will announce the deployment date in the coming days.
The Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier was previously deployed in February to the Persian Gulf to back military operations against the extremists, Cypel added.
