BEIJING (Sputnik) – A historical meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Taiwanese head Ma Ying-jeou kicked off on Saturday in Singapore.
The two leaders shook hands before entering the meeting room.
The sides are expected to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries. No agreements would reportedly be signed following the meeting.
Relations between mainland China and Taiwan have been poor since the end of China’s civil war.
The meeting between the Chinese and Taiwanese leaders is the first since the civil war ended in 1949.
