BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — According to the Hungarian leader, the bloc must stop describing the refugee crisis as positive, in contradiction of his understanding of the interests of EU citizens.
"We have the same difficulties as we have in the discussions with the European Union. The basic points are not clarified, many people here think that migration is a positive thing, the European experiences just provide evidences to the opposite," Orban told reporters before an EU summit on migration in Malta.
The Hungarian government has repeatedly proposed tougher measures on migration, including three-year prison sentences for crossing the border illegally.
Accordion to the EU border agency Frontex, over 2.1 million illegal crossings have been documented at the bloc's borders since the beginning of 2015.
