Ben Carson: would they entrust him to operate on America

The US presidential race brought yet another sensation with flamboyant neurosurgeon Ben Carson skyrocketing to national acclaim and challenging front-runner Donald Trump, both seen as major threats by the Republican leadership.

One of the defining features of Carson’s campaign has been his penchant for controversy, be it over allegedly misleading people about West Point or his now infamous tale of trying to stab a family member to death. Republican voters seem drawn to his calm personality which some believe has made them overlook all the scandal, but Donald Trump has taken aim at this very characteristic by labeling his rival “super low energy”. The Republican front-runner is also demanding that Carson finally explain the truth about his murky past to the rest of America once and for all.

For his astronomical rise from America’s top surgeon to one of its top presidential contenders, yet also for his shady scandals that have now been brought to the limelight, Ben Carson is our MAN IN THE NEWS this week.

Timofei Bordachev, Director of Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies (CCEIS) at the Higher School of Economics (studio guest); Chris Shipler, American political commentator; and Max Suchkov, Visiting Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study of Russia at New York University, shared their perspectives.
