The Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Atlanta Field Office said that FBI is taking seriously the information, released by the Anonymous hacktivist group, that the ISIL militants are planning an attack on the US city of Atlanta, but has no reliable information on the issue.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The US Federal Bureau of Investigation is taking seriously the information, released by the Anonymous hacktivist group, that ISIL militants are planning an attack on the US city of Atlanta, but has no reliable information on the issue, the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Atlanta Field Office told Sputnik on Saturday.

The Anonymous group reportedly announced earlier in the day that the ISIL militants were planning an attack on a World Wrestling Entertainment event, due to take place in Atlanta on Sunday evening.

"The FBI is aware of reports of an alleged threat that includes an Atlanta, Georgia venue and event. While we take all threats seriously, we do not have specific or credible information of an attack at this time. We have, however, made the proper notifications as we continue to work closely with our law enforcement and private sector partners to keep our community safe," J. Britt Johnson said.

The Anonymous group has declared a cyberwar against the ISIL in the wake of the deadly Paris attacks on November 13, threatening to expose Twitter accounts affiliated with the group and disturb their communications through spam.

According to the hacktivists, ISIL is reportedly targeting other locations including Paris, Rome and Milan, as well as sites in Indonesia and Lebanon.

Two suicide bombings hit the outskirts of the Lebanese capital of Beirut on November 12, claiming the lives of at least 43 people.

On October 31, a plane operated by the Russian Kogalymavia airline crashed in the Sinai Peninsula en route from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, killing all 224 people on board. The tragedy is the largest civil aviation disaster in Russian history. ISIL claimed responsibility for downing the plane.
