MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin said Saturday that the deadly hostage crisis in Mali’s capital Bamako proved that terrorism did not care about national borders, in a message to the nation’s leader.
"In the telegram, the Russian leader emphasized that the inhumane atrocity committed in the Malian capital city again confirmed that terrorism knows no borders and poses a real threat to the world," a Kremlin statement said Saturday.
Putin's telegram to Mali President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita continued that, "people of different faith and nationality fall prey to it [terrorism]" and urged to stand up against this threat as a broad international cooperation.
According to the Mali leader, 19 people were killed in the attack and two militants died in the course of the siege. Another seven people were injured.
