Senator Brown condemned Republicans' anti-Muslim rhetoric, saying that America is a country of many religions, not just "Christians and the others".
What's more important: there have been no major terrorist attacks in the US organized by foreign extremist groups since September 11. But there were quite a few instances of extremists murdering children in schools and shooting parishioners in churches, and most of them were white.
"Normally, they look more like me than they look like Middle Easterners," the senator said. "They are generally white males, who have shot up people in movie theaters and schools."
As for Syrian refugees, they are very rarely single males, the senator added; most of them are children and families who have good reason to leave their home country. And it is essential to do everything right, without taking political advantage of the situation.
According to several recent studies, white men account for far more mass murder cases than radical Islamists in the US.
