Over Third of Brits Support Idea of EU Standing Army
15:02 GMT 27.11.2015 (Updated: 11:50 GMT 09.02.2023) Over one-third of UK residents would support the European Union having a standing army made up of personnel from each EU country, while less then one-third oppose the idea, a poll revealed Friday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Despite UK public opinion polls generally reflecting little support for further EU integration and an upcoming referendum vote on UK membership in the bloc, in a poll conducted by the YouGov polling institute, 36 percent of British people said they would support the idea of an EU standing army. Some 29 percent said they would be opposed and 36 said they were unsure.

According to YouGov, a 60-percent majority of voters think that Britain should work together with other European countries in foreign policy and 47 percent of people think that the bloc should have a collective policy on controlling EU borders, compared to 42 percent who oppose the idea.
The research was conducted after the Islamic State jihadist militant group said Europe was the primary target of their attacks. A series of coordinated ISIL terror attacks in Paris on November 13 killed 130 and injured over 360.
