“We must sit down and come up with a pro-active strategy to counter islamophobia,” Hooper said on Monday. “We need the support of others in our society.”
A group called the Bureau of American Islamic Relations (BAIR) held a protest at the Islamic Center of Irving in Irving, Texas against allowing Syrian refugees into the United States and then published the names and addresses of Muslims and Muslim sympathizers on their Facebook page.
“The anti-Muslim environment is even more toxic than even after the 9/11 [September 11, 2001] attacks. The Paris attacks were just a trigger. It came at a time when we have a rise in overall anti-Muslim sentiment,” Hooper claimed.
A series of coordinated attacks carried out by Daesh supporters at various locations in Paris killed 130 people and injured over 360 others on November 13.
