MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian universities took 15 places among the Top 200 of Times Higher Education (THE) 2015-2016 rankings for emerging and frontier economies, UK’s leading post-secondary education weekly magazine said.
"It is great news that Russia has 15 institutions in this list, with seven of these sitting within the top 50, up from three last year," the editor of THE world universities rankings, Phil Baty, said in a press release.
Lomonosov Moscow State University was placed third. According to Baty, it is currently the "highest-ranked institution outside the superpower of China in third place."
"Investment and political will are vital ingredients underpinning university success," the London-based magazine observed.
All five BRICS emerging economies – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – fared exceedingly well in new THE rankings this year. China topped the list, taking 39 places overall.
